Summer Opportunities for Kids

Updated 6/12/18. Looking for some educational, hands-on actvities for the kids this summer? Here are some, and we'll add more as we get them.

Wenatchee Police Department Youth Academy 2018

The youth academy is a 12 day summer program for school district students becoming sophomores, junior or seniors. Free. Monday-Thursdays, July 16-August 2, 3PM-7:45PM at Wenatchee Valley Technical Skills Center. Summer Science at Rocky Reach (Chelan County PUD)

Free educational programs at Rocky Reach Discovery Center, taught by Discovery Center staff, are tailored for the young, inquiring scientist. Classes are separated by age group:
July 11th - 13th (for kids entering 1st grade through 3rd grade)
July 18th - 20th (for kids entering 4th grade and 5th grade)

9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. – Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 

July 13th and July 20th.,  12 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.  classes will be followed by “Art in the Park” 

We encourage parents to send their children with water bottles and a snack each day.  Registration is required. Registration is open for Summer Science classes. Please (509) 663-7522 call if you would like register your child for our classes.

Hydropower and STEM Career Academy (Chelan County PUD)

The FWEE ( Foundation for Water & Energy Education) Hydropower and STEM Career Academy can help you make the best choice for what your future might hold.You will compete in STEM challenges that include meeting and doing hands-on activities with mechanical and electrical engineers, plant mechanics and operators, divers, and linemen. As the week unfolds, career options and educational pathways that may inspire you to pursue a four year college, community college and/or an apprenticeship program will be revealed. These are exciting careers available in the communities you call home.
Eligible students are entering 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade and have a GPA of 2.5 or above for the most recent academic year.

Summer Food and Fun is a FREE summer program for kids and families every Wednesday from 9am to 11am at the Wenatchee Community Center (504 S. Chelan Ave.). We provide breakfast, activities, presentations, and sack lunches every week! There will be a free Pancake Kick-off on Wednesday, June 20th from 9 am to 11 am at Methow Park to celebrate the beginning of Summer break and the start of Summer Food and Fun!


Wenatchee River Institute

Their summer camps get children outside in nature, meeting new people, using their imaginations, learning about their surroundings, and most importantly - having fun! We offer a diverse range of programming throughout the summer serving students entering grades 1-6. With lots of hands-on discovery and a 6:1 camper to adult ratio, our camps provide a rich setting for growth and development. Summer camps run from 10am-3pm, Monday-Friday, with drop off and pick up at:

YMCA Summer Camps

Each one week session of the Wenatchee Valley YMCA’s Summer Day Camp is packed with trips to area parks, educational theme-related activities, team challenges, group games, special events, and swimming. In addition to all of that, we will have exciting local facility tours and guest speakers. Summer Day Camp this year will be offering the choice of several enhanced filed trips throughout the summer for a small additional fee. During the enhanced field trips, campers get to experience Slide Waters, white water rafting, boating and the low ropes courses at Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp. Children may be signed in as early as 7:30 am and signed out between 4:45 and 6:00 pm at the Wenatchee Valley YMCA. For information and registration visit: http://wenymca.org/daycamp/

Who: Children entering 1-5 grades

When: June 13 through August 19, Monday through Friday

Where: Assembly of God Church, 1520 McKittrick St.

Activities: Field trips, arts and crafts, games and swimming

Eastmont Parks Day Camp


Who: Children 6-11 years old

When: June 13-17, 20-24; June 27-July 1; July 5-8,11-15, 18-22, 25-29; Aug. 1-5, 8-12, 15-19, 22-26. From 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Where: The Living Room Church portable, across the street from tennis courts

Activities: Games, arts and crafts, swimming and weekly field trips

Organization: Eastmont Metropolitan Park District
Cost: $80/week, $20/day or $12/half-day

YMCA Summer Day Camp


Who: Children in grades K-4 in May 2016.
When: Weekly themed sessions begin June 13, 20, 27; July 5, 11, 18, 25; and August 1, 8, 15, 22. Sessions run 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Where: Program starts and ends at the YMCA, corner of Chelan and Orondo avenues in Wenatchee.

Activities: Daily trips to area parks, swimming lessons, arts and crafts, games, climbing wall, and special activities related to weekly themes all under the supervision of trained group leaders

Organization: Wenatchee Valley YMCA

Cost: $152/week for Y members, $172/week for community members. Financial assistance available.

Discovery Camps at Mountain Sprouts


Who: Children in grades K-3

When: June 20-Sept. 1, Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
Where: Tierra Learning Center, 12000 Sunitsch Canyon Road, Leavenworth

Activities: Exploratory, hands-on summer fun in the mountains including creative writing, geology, tree house design, water science, toy making, game development, drawing, painting, wilderness skills and hiking

Organization: Mountain Sprouts Children’s Community

Cost: $170 per week, with 15 percent off for 3 or more weeks

Wenatchee Valley YMCA T-Wave Day Camp


Who: Children in grades 5-7 in May 2016

When: Weekly sessions begin June 20, 27; July 5, 11, 18, 25; and August 1 and 8. Sessions run from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday

Where: Program starts and ends at the YMCA, corner of Chelan and Orondo avenues in Wenatchee.

Activities: Participants plan their own week including service learning, team building, budgeting and a variety of recreation activities under the supervision of trained group leaders.

Organization: Wenatchee Valley YMCA

Cost: $195/week for Y members, $215/week for community members. Financial assistance available. Additional $50 for weeks beginning 7/11 and 7/25 (special overnight activity).
